💬 Things I Wish Boys Understood About Being a Girl

  by Natadecoco

Being a girl isn’t always as simple as people think. Behind the smiles and strength, we deal with things that often go unnoticed, like painful periods, mood swings we can’t always control, or the fear of walking alone at night and constantly looking over our shoulders. We’re told to “smile more,” or that we’re “too emotional,” when in reality, we’re just trying to express ourselves in a world that doesn’t always listen. Dressing up doesn’t always mean we want attention because sometimes it’s just a way to feel good and confident for ourselves. And when we speak up or set boundaries, we’re not being dramatic, we’re protecting our space. In classrooms, relationships, and everyday life, we’re often balancing between being strong and soft, confident but not “too much.” All we really want is to be heard, respected, and seen for who we truly are.

It’s the little things that matter, a friend who walks us home, someone who believes in our ideas, or a guy who simply listens without interrupting. These small gestures create a big impact, reminding us that we’re not alone in navigating this world.

So to all the boys who try to understand us, even just a little, thank you. You may not always get it right, but your effort means more than you know. Keep being kind, keep listening, and please, never say “just calm down” again :)
